The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal pool on the Golden Circle in Iceland. The water is between 99-102 degrees and is naturally heated from an underground lava flow. The water gets its blue color from a mineral in the ground called silica. The silica and another mineral called sulfur (which stinks!) in the water are the reason The Blue Lagoon is thought to be helpful in healing skin conditions like psoriasis.
Many tourists and locals visit the lagoon daily. Before you can enter the water, you have to take a completely naked shower before putting on your bathing suit. It's really weird while you're doing it but it's good to know everyone in there is clean.
The lagoon is really big and not deep so you can move around to different areas. There is a place where you can get a silica mud mask on your face and a drink while you soak.
This was one of my favorite things about Iceland.
